The song for today is a number with Ben Pollack & His Orchestra, Ben who´s real name was Benjamin Pollack, was born, June 22,1903 in Chicago,ILL.He was a drummer and bandleader,not so well known outside the States.As good as he was at playing swing music,as troubled he was in is private life,with money trouble,and lots of trouble with his wife´s.Sadly the dark pages of his life followed him to the bitter en,he hanged him self on June 7,1971 in Palm Springs CA,tired of living in this lousy world.But nevertheless,his music lives on.
The tune you´re about to hear was banned from all radio broadcast in 1929,listen to the lyrics and you´ll understand why!

Here´s another of my favorite songs,a duet by Ada Jones & Billy Murray recorded November 1910 & released on record in 1911. Music by Fred Fisher & words by Alfred Bryan. The first recording was made by Blanch Ring in 1910,and it become her signature song for a while.But this is the recording that become the most famous of the two.A song about the new invention, aeroplane.Great tune!

Here´s a catchy little tune by one of my favorite bands from the pre war era, Charlie Barnet & his Orchestra with "Sing Baby Sing" from 1936. The vocal on this great swinging tune is for sure, but not 100% sure Charlie Barnet him self!? The band was known as " The Blackest White Band Of Them All", listen and you´ll understand why.

One of many recordings of that song the year of 1935 (Harry Stockwell,Al Bowlly) & and on this recording we will hear the sadly less known Smith(Sykes) Ballew(born jan 21, 1902 in Palestine, Texas and he past away may 2, 1984 in Fort Worth,Texas) with his orchestra. I just love this song and think this is the best recording because of Smith Ballew´s warm and tender voice! The song came from in it´s orginal from the 1935 MGM movie "Here Comes The Band" with Harry Stockwell on voc. If you like the music on this site you certainly got to hurry down to the dvd or music store and bye a copy of the BBC series "Pennies From Heaven" from 1978,you´ll never regret that you did! Lots of great pre world war II music and great acting as well.I think this is one of the best series of all time.

This lady is one of my favorite female jazz singers,so cool and relaxed, and almost dreamy in her way of singing.
Annette Hanshaw was one of the first great white female jazz singers and ranked beside such names as Ethel Waters, Bessie Smith & The Boswell Sisters in the late 1920,s.
This tune comes from an English 78 rpm Columbia Record nr 1812 D, and recorded in 1929, New York City,USA. Have fun.

Vernon Dalhart 6 april 1883-14 sep 1948, was a popular United States singer and songwriter of the early decade of the 29td century. He is a major influence in the fields of Country Music. Born Marion Try Slaughter
in Marion County, Jefferson Texas. He took his stage name from two towns , Vernon & Dalhart in Texas
between which he punched cattle in 1890,s.
He was already an established singer when he made his first Country Musik recording which cemented his
place in music history.
Carson Robison aug 4, 1890-march 24 , 1957 born in Oswego, Kansas was also a great Country Music
singer and song writer. Although his impact is generelly forgotten today. He play a major role promoting
Country Music in it´s early years throug numerous recordings and radio apperances. He was also known as
Charles Robison and sometimes composed under the name psedonym Carlos , B . McAfee.

Al Bowlly var nog den störste populärsångaren i det förkrigska England med ett otal inspelningar med olika orkestrar från sent 20:tal till hans för tidiga död 1941(dog under Blitzen över London)Här en låt från 1932 med Ray Noble´s New Mayfair Orchestra på skivmärke His Masters Voice NR.B-6154

Sångaren ni hör på denna låt är Val Rosing (1910-1969) mest känd är han väl som vokalist hos Henry Hall & His Orchestra.Val Rosing vars dopnamn var (Valerian) var med på ett hundra tal insjungningar med olika band,däribland Ray Noble och sitt eget band Radio Ryhthm Rascals innan han emigrerade till USA för att söka lyckan (over there) ! Sångkariären blev det inte mycket med , men han fick arbete som sångcoach i Hollywood och det höll han på med fram till sin död 1969! Låten jag har lagt upp spelades in för märket Piccadilly"766" april 1931 tillsammans med Howard Godfrey & His Valdorfians UK!
